Disc Thickener
In pulp and papermaking processes, disc thickeners are used to thicken pulp. A disc thickener is used to dewater stock by gravity by taking advantage of the difference in level between the stock and white water in the disc when passing through the filter medium. The vat's inlet chamber receives pulp slurry containing between 0.9% and 2.5%. This is funnelled through a channel so that the white water in the disc flows to the ends of the hollow shaft and then discharges through the disc itself. The disc segment is cleaned with a high-pressure shower. As the thickened stock, which is between 3% and 5% in consistency, flows over the valve plate into the outlet vat, it is discharged. A variable frequency drive is used in order to ensure consistency and capacity of the outlet.
